The importance of the CMR in road transport
26/08/2022
Combined transports are using two or more types of transporting to offer one singular service. This is agreed between the client and a carrier that may require setting up as many contracts as there are companies involved in the transport.
This type of transport offers several advantages which we are going to lay out here:
- Tighter delivery times: the service, being offered by a single company, allows transit calculations to be more effective, especially with goods that are not bulky. This being the case, it is advisable in the case of perishable products that require rapid transport to the end customer.
- Economic savings: the price for the combined service includes all the transport systems, so it is more interesting than contracting each of the required services independently.
- Speed in cargo management: as it is a company that acts as an intermediary between the customer of origin and the final customer, it facilitates any step that has to be taken throughout the organisation of the shipment. Both parties know who to contact and, furthermore, in the event of delays or incidents during transport, the only logistics operator will be responsible for providing the corresponding information.
- Last but not least: it makes it possible to find cargo transport services in geographical areas where there is no reference to any logistics service provider. The fact that a company can locate the necessary accredited collaborators, avoids headaches for all those who have a new destination to send their cargo to.
Example of its benefits with a best practise case
A company specialised in the manufacturing of plastic parts used in the automotive sector has its producing plant in Legazpi, 50km from the Vitoria-Gasteiz cargo airport in Spain. In this scenario, a new customer required cargo urgently in Ann Arbor, 40km from Michigan in the United States.
The company from Legazpi – in charge of the transport – contacted HTG Express for organizing:
- Firstly, a road transport service to Foronda airport in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
- Then, we carry out the necessary handling and customs operations to leave the country of origin using an air transport.
- At the destination, we process the entry formalities into the country
- Afterwards, a ground vehicle is responsible for completing the 40km that separate the Michigan airport from the final destination in Ann Arbor.
All communication is centralised at HTG Express, managing the suppliers and controlling the fleets and means necessary to offer the agreed service. At the same time, the client is regularly informed of the steps completed and to act proactively in the event of any incident that may arise. The final price includes all services, with the exception of the payment of taxes and/or duties that the goods transported may entail.
In this way, the shipment between both parties is carried out with one single interlocutor, speeding up delivery times as much as possible, and with the peace of mind of knowing that the goods will arrive at their final destination on time and in the agreed manner. In road and air transport, at HTG Express we deliver peace of mind.
